Jeep Grand Cheerokee - electrical short?

How big of a deal is an electrical short in a car? There have been a few things that make me think I have a short in the driver's side.

1) At 2am one night the alarm started going off and a neighbor had to pull the fuse out

2) The "lock doors" button doesn't work on the driver's side

3) Yesterday the light that says the drivers side door is open and all the lights stayed on, but the door was shut tight?

Does this sound like an electrical issue? Is that an expensive fix?

Something does sound wrong with it. have you replaced all the fuses to see if it fixed it?

if it is a short, it can be hard to find as it would require testing all sorts of wires. is it an old jeep?

i'd take it to a mechanic and just get an estimate on it.
