Lights not working correctly

I converting from dual filament bulbs to single filament bulbs with a simple 3 wire to 2 wire converter. The turn signal runs through a 27ohm resistor and a 1N4001 diode in series. The parking light runs through a 1N4001 diode in parallel with the forementioned resistor and diode. Both wires are tied into the positive side of a single filament bulb. The negative side of the bulb is tied to ground wire. When I apply 12vdc the turn signal works as required. The parking light does not work and the resistor gets very hot. Is my resistance value to small or are my diodes wired backwards?
