Blue smoke is an indication of oil burning. White smoke is from antifreeze. Zdoes the vehicle use oil? Most likely it is leaking past the piston rongs or valve guides. Another possibility is a leaking intake manifold gasket or a problem with the PCV valve or pcv system which may be a fairly inexpensive fix. If it is the rings or valve guides that would be more expensive. The engine may need to be overhauled.
