When you first checked the fluid , was it low? if so it may be air , but usually it means its leaking.
you probably dont need a clutch , but you may need a master /slave cylinder assembly
for your truck , they arent cheap, but probably less than a clutch . if its leaking the pedal goes to the
floor , it may bypass internally , and not leak externally (the master cylinder)

It Sounds like a hydrualic issue, bad slave or clutch master. it also depends on how long you have been forcing it into gear, If you have high rpms and you are forcing it into gear, you are probably in need of a clutch and hydrualic replacement. pretty common i just did one yesterday.
