Fuel gage says its empty and check engine light stays on

I have a 1996 Chrysler Town and Country 3.3 liter.....I had a fuel pump put on this past Thursday and I put gas in it ...As I was driving home the check engine light came on....The next day I went to drive it and the fuel gage light and sound came on saying it was on empty....I turned it off and took out the key for a few minutes....after I did this it started to work but it also made the instrument panel lights not work until I turned it back off and on.....It is still doing this but now just the fuel gage...

Take it back to where you had the fuel pump installed and show them or tell them how it is acting. It sounds like you have a wire or wires shorting out or it could be a defective fuel pump if they replaced the whole cartridge unit.

I had a Sebring that had a similar happening. It died like I ran out of gas but I had a half a tank. Thought it was fuel pump, not! It was a computer chip problem. The chip was around $200 used, however, the expense of them trying to figure out what is was cost me more.
