I always thought the flashing brake lights was for "safety purposes" to warn drivers that you're using your brakes. To me, this is more of an annoyance and a distraction and completely defeats the purpose of what it's supposed to do. I think it's the middle brake light that does this, not the 2 on either sides of the car.
As for the ABS light lit up, but not flashing... I think that's a good thing. If it's flashing, something is not right. I own a 2000 VW Cabrio, and my ABS light turns on when I first start the car, but I believe it turns off along with the other lights (battery, engine, oil, etc.). If you could clarify what you think the correlation is between these, perhaps you can get a more specific answer.
