My 1999 Mercury Villager runs rough, + check engine come on, when wet?
Can anyone help? I am having alot of trouble trying to determine what could be causing my 1999 Mercury Villager to run rough, and the check engine light comes on, when it gets wet. Once it dries out it runs normally and the check engline light goes off. Does anyone know what could be causing this, and how it can be fixed?

When we get a vehicle in our shop where moisture is causing a problem such as missing or rough idle we use an old spray bottle filled with water and a dash of soap added (soap makes the water wetter) then gradually mist the engine here and there around the ignition system until the engine starts to sputter or sometimes will even stall out. This works pretty well in most cases especially around the high voltage ignition system such as the spark plug cable,distributor and coil areas.
Cracks or voltage leaks and spark flashes not easily visual when dry will usually show themselves.
