My 91 4-runner sputters all of a sudden, then no problem...

I have a 1991 toyota 4-runner. Ive replaced many things, full tune up, MAss flow air sensor, many other things. It runns great, then all of a sudden, it sputters like a miss, then smoothes out. What could it be? The check engine light never comes in.
