My car is stuck in park. how do fix this?

I drive a 2001 ford Escort Zx2.I have had this problem before but was alway able to unsick the gear shifter by letting my car run a few minutes.That doesnt seem to work anymore.

This could be a couple things.

The shift cable could be fetched up, the interlock solenoid could have gone bad, or could even be an issue with the stoplight switch.

Do you hear the normal "click" that you should when you step on the brake?

That click would be the solenoid releasing the shifter.
