Is the leased car also in your name? if it is, then yes it will affect your credit in a bad way. even if you do the voluntary repossession.
the only way for it to not to affect your credit is to
1. pay the $500 your self
2. get the car back

If you give your car back it will affect your credit, and he has to bring the car to them , to be voluntary repo, so id do the same as you but you have to gett the car, to return it, and just get a divorce and try to go on , but your credit will be affected for a while, but you can build it back

Yes a volentary surrender is the same as a repo to the credit organizations however you can rebuild your credit and with a large down payment you can buy anything ==give the finance company everything you can to help them to pickup the car before it leaves the state or country if you know where he lives or works or any family members he would hide it with the object is that they get the car other wise they will be after you for the debt == be sure to remove him from any bank accounts and credit cards === credit cards have them blocked and reissued===do not wait for anything do it today try to get it repoed as fast as possible
