Regarding civil law; What does the word "Lashes" mean

I own a vehichle that my ex refuses to turn over to me. I solely possess the tag, title, and reg. I have now retained a lawyer to represent me as the local sheriff is stating that it is a civil matter. I was advised that in civil law "statue of limitation" the word "lashes" means something? I can't find it anywhere in FL Stats or Civil Laws.

Laches is an equitable defense, or doctrine. The person invoking laches is asserting that an opposing party has "slept on its rights", and that, as a result of this delay, that other party is no longer entitled to its original claim. Put another way, failure to assert one’s rights in a timely manner can result in claims being barred by laches. Laches is a form of estoppel for delay. In Latin

Thank you so much for the correct spelling, as well as, the meaning. I have never heard of this. I am completely shocked and dismayed that this can even be a defense. The vehicle was awarded to me via our divorce decree. It states that once the vehicle was paid off that he was to remove his name as I am sole owner. He is a cop and that is why he hasn't been made to give it to me and now that I have a lawyer, they are going to claim laches...wow. I am sorry, but he got everything from our marriage. All I took was our then 4 year old son and the jeep. I had to let him take the jeep back in 2003, with full knowledge that I was to get it in 2005. Since then nothing! So now I have to pay a lawyer and I think that I am going to lose it anyway. So much thanks for helping me.
