Reposession of my car is the inevitable. I recieved the title to my car in my name with no liens on it. Its obviously a mistake because i owe $18,000.00. I'm not sure who's mistake it is. Can i use this to bargain with the finance company?

I was married over 25 years with good credit until april of this year. My divorce has been pending for over a year. I have 2 kids 13 and 19. The 19 y/o finally got a job 2 weeks ago and is helping out. I had to liquidate an ira earlier this year so i could make ends meet. During a family reunion out of state i had serious car trouble. My car was towed to a dodge dealer for an estimate of repair. After the quote, against my better judgement i financed a used car. I tried to take the car back in july but was told i couldn't. I tried to refinance my mortgage but was turned down. I can't afford my mortgage and a $400/mo car payment (plus comp ins coverage). I called crysler financial they suggested i find someone to take up payments. They told me i would end up owing them $7000 (diff between payoff and selling price). No one will take up payments. Reposession is the inevitable. I bought the car in arkansas. When i got home to texas i registered and paid taxes. For some reason i recieved the title to it in the mail about 3 weeks ago. It's in my name with no lien holders. I dont want to do anything illegal but can i use it as a barganing tool or something. I don't want them to sue me for $7000.00.

There are lien papers out there and dont think they wont find them , and the county court clerk just didnt put it on there but its filed and they will not like you doing this, when they have the goods , so they may make it harder on you in the long run,

THANKS FOR YOUR ANSWER BRAIN. NOT WHAT I WANTED TO HERE BUT OH WELL. I VOLUNTARILY SURRENDERED MY CAR TODAY AND GAVE THEM THE TITLE. THEY WERE VERY SURPRISED AND APPRECIATIVE. JUST WISH THIER ERROR COULD HAVE BEEN IN MY FAVOR AS I TRY TO PUT MY LIFE BACK TOGETHER. BELIEVE ME I NEED ALL THE HELP I CAN GET.
