In order to get to the thermostat the upper intake manifold will have to be removed for access to the thermostat. The upper manifold may made of plastic or metal. This is rather involved repair for a do it yourselfer and procedures must be followed such as proper retorquing the upper intake manifold and correct placement of the thermostat into the thermostat housing. (a jiggle air bleed valve located in the thermostat has to be placed correctly in the thermostat housing as there is a special recess that the bleed valve must fit into) Chrysler doesn't recommend changing the thermostat if there are no DTC's set (diagnostic trouble codes) a set code will cause an amber trouble light to glow on dashboard. Even though your temp guage may be showing a high reading or you have little or no heat from the heater unless you have a trouble code lit or you have high vehicle mileage on your Cruiser replacement is not usually necessary and most likely not a problem so they say.
