Turnover to start vehicle?

I was driving a 94 Dodge Caravan and it suddenly began to slow down and I pulled over to a shoulder on a highway. It sounds like it wants to start but won't.
I changed spark plugs, battery is ok, alt & starter ok?
What could make it not start up?
I had to get it towed home. All belts are on, and no sound of
problem with flywheel.
Thank you for any advice you can offer.
