Violation for expired drivers license

My son was driving a vehicle registered in my name. He was pulled over for a minor traffic infraction on 7/6/08 in the city where we live. He did not realize his license had expired on May 26th, 2008. So in addition to the minor violation he was cited for a misdemeanor VC 12500 (a) and my car was impounded. What implications are there for a misdemeanor such as this? My son has absolutely no criminal record.

If he goes and gets his lincnse renewed before the court date then i dont think they will do any thing, thats the way they do it here in ky, we all forget some times, and just tell the traffic judge this, dont tell him a lie, or nothing like a long sad story, just i forgot, and tell him that you have gotten it renewed
