Die casting is the process of forcing molten metal under high pressure into mold cavities (which are machined into dies). Most often, the metal used is non-ferrous(iron), although ferrous materials can be used. The die casting method is best for making a large quantity of small to medium-sized parts that have good detail, a fine surface and are dimensionally stable.
Most people have heard the term in relation to Matchbox-type cars, which use a zinc-aluminum alloy known as zamak (also called white- or pot-metal).
