If you get caught they can charge you with fliling a false report. Normally it will stop there but it depends on the false report was about. If it was related to insurance then you could also face charges on insurance fraud.

I spent 24 years in the insurance business as an investigator and it seems that everyone wishes they had not made the choices they did. But it will pass and you will move on.
