Just tell them the truth , better to run then to get killed by a bunch of thugs, tell them you were afaried, to stay , and wanted to have the police present! if you make a good enough case , they will treat you good , and you might just walk without any thing but money for the wreck ,.

What to do about a hit and run?
Another veicle stopped abruptly and i ran into it on private property i was approached then by the driver and witnesses agressively i felt threathened by that and left the scene.They got my plate number and the police want to talk to me how should i address this matter? What criminal charges can i face
