What would cause a leak in the gearbox?

I have a leak in the gearbox on a 1999 Grand Marquis, wondering whereit's located and what would cause the leak?

Bad transmission seal , if its back about half way on car, its a back seal , and more to the front its front, seal , your gears are toward the back , were it hooks up to the drive line, and changes gear as it shifts, out in transmission
