Wheel Bearings

I have a 1992 Saturn SL 2 . When I get on the highway and get the car up to 50 -60 miles the steering starts shaking, and it wobbles and I can fill the tires shaking. I went to get it alignment and they told me that it was my wheel bearings which would cost me 800.00 I dont know nothing about this except what they tell me, and I didnt get it fixed because maybe ther are taking advantage of me because I am a woman. need to know what to do. Thanks,

Terri

That is very possible it is the wheel bearings. those are the little metal beads inside of the tires that allow the wheels to spin. if they are damaged it can cause problems with the car. My brother had problems with those in his jeep and had to replace them which he did himself.

Before paying the $800 to fix it, I'd take it somewhere and get a second opinion.

Do you think I could possibly do it myself. I have worked on my car before changing oil changing a radiator changing spark plugs If I get one of those books I could probally do it myself, how much do you think the parts would be, for both front and back.
