The fuel pump is located inside the fuel tank. Access to the pump is usually made through a plate located under the rear seat on some models through the trunk floor. If there is more than a half a tank of fuel in the tank you best bring down the level otherwise you will be working in fuel. After removing the rear seat remove the cover plate. Below this opening is the fuel tank. A series of bolts have to be removed and fuel the lines disconnected. The pump slides into a track mounted to the bottom of the tank. A small tab must be pushed to release the pump from the track and then pump can be pulled up and out. When re-installing the pump you must hear a click sound or the pump will not be locked in and will pop up out of the track. Give the pump a little pull upwards to ensure it is locked in. Note the fuel hose connections and where they connect when removing them..
Hints: Be extremely careful when working down in the tank opening as the edges of the tank are very sharp. Protect your wrist and hand area as best you can with some tape and gauze plus an old heavy long sleeve shirt. Work where there is a good fresh air supply or the fumes will get to you. Of course avoid creating any sparks and work carefully. Keep a fire extinquisher nearby just in case. Plan for a quick escape just in case. Keep a first aid kit handy. You will be working mostly while on your knees and padding will help.Take your time and take a break if you are feeling fatiqued.
