0 degrees is top dead center how ever the timming mark goes around twice for the cumbustion cycle of a engine the way to find tdc is pull valve cover on #1 cylinder when it is at top dead center both intake and exhaust valves will be closed as it continues to rotate the intake valve will start to open then you are sure you are at top dead center

An easy way to find TDC is to take out the number 1 spark plug cylinder. and by hand place a wrench on the harmonic balancers main nut. turn the engine over by hand, while holding your finger over the spark plug hole. when you feel air come out of the hole. stick a screw driver in the spark plug hole and slowly turn the engine over with your had some more. you will feel the piston start to come up and hit the screw driver. once the piston reaches the top of the cylinder hole then you are at TDC. if you turn the engine over to much and you feel the piston start go down you went to far. just rotate the engine two full turns again and start over.
