Yesterday I changed the rear mail seal in my 88 Dodge Ram 318in. I also chanegd the oli pump.

When repairs were done I started the motor and it was tapping loudly and there was no visible oil flowing in the valve cover. The oil pressure guage showed no oil pressure and the red oil light was on. By the time a dorve it home (3 miles), it had quit tappuing but the oil guuage shows low pressure and the oil light stays on.

Stupid question. Was the oil pump screen cleaned? I have a 2000 318. In these newer models the screen gums up. If I had 5.2 I would get rid of it. The 88 maybe alright. Little story. My motor driving down the road, the motor quit. Tow it to a repair shop. The motor locked up. Looking a motor. The wife, why put the same motor in. So it can do the same thing again. Stupid me. Found a 5.7, bolts right up. Thank you my loving wife.
