6 month old male, redness of foreskin

My 6 month old son has been circumsized since birth, 2 days ago he developed a redness around his penis , i clean him with every changing and have never had this problem before. It doesnt seem to bother him, but it does me. Could this be ballenitis? I am a urology nurse, but I have never seen this on an infant before. Please help!!!

My son was curcumsized at birth also....he from time to time had some redness around the tip of his penis and the doctor told me that it was completly normal. Just keep an eye out for any swelling, puss or drainage of any kind. If it doesnt seem to be bothering him then I would at your next well check up appointment mention it to your pediatrition....I am sure its nothing to get too stressed over...You can also call your pediatrition's office and ask a nurse....they would be able to tell you what you should do...

I hope this helps....

I have 3 boys who were all circumsized, my 6 year old sometimes gets red around the penis. The skin is a little more sensitive around that area not to the child, just in the general area. It's fine. If your child is still wearing diapers put a little bit of barrier cream around the redness to prevent any further irritaion.

As a nurse and a mom of twins and older boy...redness can come and go...what you need to watch for is potential yeast infection (redness and spreading into a larger area) as that area is exposed to moisture. Yeast can eventually cause open areas which can become painful. Keep an eye on it, more frequent diaper changes to keep the area dry. You can always double check with your doctor.

It is really important not to over cleanse the tender skin of the penis. Also, since your child is 6 months old, he is probably beginning to teethe which means his saliva is becoming more acidic. They swallow it and then when they urinate it burns not only the penis but also the rectum. I suggest a warm baking soda bath. It always worked for my champ!

Because your child is 6 months old, I am inclined to believe he is teething and this causes more acidic saliva to produce than usual. My cure was always to bathe my son in a warm baking soda bath, around 1/4 cup. It is soothing and helps relieve any itching if there is any. Of course, if you see a discharge and he is really itching a lot at it, you should have him checked for yeast. I always gave my kids yogurt which is known to help.
