Is this a private adoption? If so, then the law has actually been changed in your favor. A mother can change her mind up to the birth of the child and not have to pay everything back. Although you are going to disappoint the family you promised the baby to, this is your decision. Maybe you can try and pay back some of it. Good luck!

No you can not get into trouble if you do not give them the baby. That is why most states give a period of 72 hours after the baby is born before they will allow you to sign away your parental rights and surrender the baby for adoption. I know it may be hard on them thinking they were going to get a baby, but all they can do is guilt you about it, and ask for thier money back. You are allowed to change you mind I'm so glad you decided to keep the baby. As long as you keep the baby's best interests at heart that is the best thing you can do. It isn't always about money, just because those people have money it doesn't replace the love a mother has for her child.
