You didn't state if you had a serum (blood) hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) or a urine prenancy test. You also didn't state if you were symptomatic or not, or what may cause you to think that you or someone else has an ectopic pregnancy. For the question you asked however, it usually depends upon how far along you are, just as with any other pregnancy. Serum hCG's should be done as a diagnostic tool, they will watch for a plateau and then either a half-life of less than or equal to 7 days or a doubling time of less than or equal to 7 days have the highest predictive value for ectopic pregnancy of any hCG pattern. (Sometimes however, slow rising hCG's occur in normal/viable pregnancies). A person who is symptomatic with a possible ectopic pregnancy should also get an ultrasound. There are other conditions that have the same or similar symptoms as ectopic pregnancies. Ectopic pregnancies (though rarely) can be life threatening, so it needs to be checked as soon as possible by a physician. Good luck and let us know, Susu
