Claiming a child

My son was born August 22, 2007 can I claim him on my return and get the earned income credit for 2007?

Yes, and congrats!! A child born in the tax year is considered to have lived with you all year, even if it was born on December 31st , but you must first secure a Social Security number for him. File a Form SS-5 with your local Social Security office if you have not already done so.

CONGRATS, AND ANY CHILD BORN IN THE TAX YEAR YOU ARE ABLE TO CLAIM. JUST MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE HIS BIRTH CERTIFICATE AND SOC SEC CARD.

You will want to get the babys ssn. The hospital should have given you the form and information on how to get it. In the meantime you can go to irs.gov and search earned income credit. This will bring up a link in which you can answer some questions to determine if you qualify to earn it for 2007.

You can definitely claim your son. If your income qualifies you for the earned income credit then you will get it as well. Congrats on the new baby!!!
