I am a healthy woman who has been impregnated by a crack user.

I am a healthy woman who has been impregnated by a crack user. I have done some research on the subject and found that the cocaine could adhere to the sperm and attack the fetus. Apparently this should not result in any malformation but could affect the child's development. Do you have any info or statistics on this subject as I do not want to have an abortion but I am worried about the health of the child.

Who told you that "Apparently this should not result in any malformation but could affect the child's development."? Was that person on crack too? Depending upon the amount of usage, babies can be deformed at birth, seizures, mental retardation, developmental problems, autism, or it could result in miscarriage or even stillbirth or after the child is born, SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). Statistically, there is not a clear number on the exact cases as many men lie about their drug use, and unlike with the mother, you can't do tests throughout the pregnancy to find out about drug usage and tox levels. So without complete honesty on the part of both parents, there won't ever be an accurate statistical count. Continue to get the best prenatal care possible.

Best to you,

Susu
