I need to clarify a previous question.....please read and reply.

My boyfriend is military, so I flew out to see him from 2.29 to 3.2 because I don't get to see him often. Unfortunately, my period lasted all that weekend. He still wanted to have sex, and we didn't use condoms. I used douche afterwards, and was still on my period when I got on the plane on 3.1. I take birth control, and have been for a while. I am on the second day of the "green" pills - the last of four weeks, the sugar pill part - and my period still isn't here. Am I just being paranoid, or is there a chance that something could have happened? Thanks. Hopefully, you can set my mind at ease. Please e-mail me an answer.

HERE is the clarification:

I didn't miss taking my pill, and I douched afterwards. We last had sex on March 2, and I was still on my period on March 4. My period usually occurs sometime during the first week of the month, like around the third, so I haven't missed yet, and I am started to get cramps, but no blood yet. Since February was a short month, you think that may also knock my period off by a day? Also, I've been on birth control since June of last year.

I just have a question... why did you douche? Did you know that can increase your chances of getting pregnant? You would think that it cleans out your system to get rid of sperm, but actually it pushes sperm and helps them along the way making it more likely that you will get pregnant.

"The liquid in the douche can force the semen and sperm further into a girl's body, shortening the distance between the sperm and the egg, increasing the chance of pregnancy (http://www.sexetc.org/faq/pregnancy/925). "

It sounds like with the timing you had sex in the last few days of your period which also increases your chances because you are closer to ovulation than at the beginning and since sperm can live for a few days, it is not only possible, but it has happened many time.

Since you have been on the pill, taking it everyday and hopefully at the same time everyday (which in my experience, doctors don't tell you!) then hopefully you are fine. Just don't make the mistake of thinking just because you are on your period you can't get pregnant. And don't douche! It increases chances of getting pregnant and it's bad for your ph balance and can lead to infections.

Good luck!

Lets see, shes on the pill and having her period? What are the chances of her conceiving? Are we fertile all 28 days or 1?

Sorry, I'm not sure what you are talking about goddess65? As far as a method of birth control? People who use the rhythm method are called parents :)

Not very effective, although I' m not sure what that has to do with this post.

This can be a good method IF you know your body's rhythms and when it can get pregnant. Yes, it does work, and yes I've heard about it working. But there is a large margin of error, if you are off you will almost always get pregnant. Why leave it up to that chance.

The fact is that anything from stress, to food, to any number of other various environmental factors can and will cause women to ovulate at different times of the month, and that is a scientific fact of life. Given that, another problem is the how long sperm is viable. Studies now suggest that sperm can be viable for up to 7 days! Most studies suggest that the rhythm method is only about 60%-80% effective (depending on who you ask).

I wouldn't recommend it unless getting pregnant wouldn't put a serious cramp in your lifestyle.
