Is it ok to let a 1 year old have a bottle in bed?

My little girl is almost a year old (next week) and she still doesn't sleep through the night because she is little for her age and still needs to eat. She's been on a growth spurt and is waking up 4 times a night. To maximize sleep, I starting making a bottle and just giving it to her in her crib.

I know doctors say not to, but is she old enough she's ok? Did you give your kids bottles in bed? Is it a bad habit?

Sometimes it better to ask moms and dads than doctors because you get practical advise!

Thanks!

It is a very bad habit if you allow the child to sleep with the bottle in their mouth as this can lead to serious and permanent tooth damage in the baby teeth as well as the developing adult tooth buds. I had to do this with my youngest as well, and have no trouble with her teeth, but I was very careful to remove the bottle as soon as she was asleep. Also listen and watch closely to avoid choking. HOWEVER, from the doctor side of me ;-) Be sure she has a good bedtime snack, perhaps a bottle that you give her in the rocking chair before she is put to bed. Do not let the bottle go into the bed with her. For her dental health it is important to stop nighttime bottles.

Ruchelle is right Jodi!
She should be sleeping through the night by now. I bet you could break this habit easily (it is honestly a habit for her). She also should be off a "bottle" completly by 15 months (idealy). I have a feeling that it is more of a mommy habit then a baby habit.

No bottles in bed, lots of babies can fall asleep or choke! Plus they tell you not to because you really need to wipe out your babies gums after a bottle, the milk can sit in the gums and if you dont practice good dental hygiene they can have teeth and gum problems before they even cut teeth.

My youngest daughter has 4 boys....at age 1, on their birthday, they get to throw the bottle in the

trash...of course by then they are drinking from a cup, & eating healthy foods...not that your child

isn't eating well...a small snack before bed...AND you can also brush her teeth at that age..

this has worked well in our family, maybe it will help you...i do know she never gave any one of

her boys a bottle in bed...good luck
