Gallbladder surgery during pregnancy is possible, but the recommendation is typically to wait until the second trimester. The risks vs. benefits is a decision only you, your baby's father, and your doctors should determine. Alot of it depends upon the severity of your condition. I know this wasn't much help. Talk to your physicians (ask them what their experience with this is) and speak with your family. Take care and good luck, Susu

Yes, gall bladder surgery is possible during pregnancy and your personal doctor should decide whether or not the surgery would present a risk to your baby. The greatest potential risk would be the type of anaesthetic they use for the surgery. Depending on the type and the amount of anaesthetic, it could end up in your baby's blood and that's the risk.

Gall bladder surgery is normally necessitated by gallstones. That is a very serious matter because your gall bladder can become infected or even burst if a lot of stones have formed. With the new microsurgical techniques, gall bladder surgery is not as traumatic as it used to be.

Tell your doctor to be honest with you about the potential risk to your baby if you have the surgery and if the risk is minimal, go for the surgery. If your gall bladder situation keeps getting worse, it could threaten your life.
