Is it safe to lose weight while trying to conceive?

My husband and I have been trying to conceive. But it's been taking a while, which can tend to be depressing and I've wound up gaining some weight in the mean time. Is it safe to exercise and try to lose weight while I am trying to conceive? Will exercising affect me if I wind up getting pregnant, and I don't know it yet (in other words, during the first few weeks of my pregnancy - before I know that I'm pregnant)? Are there certain types of exercises that would be more effective faster, or that would be safer while trying to conceive? Thanks!

Getting healthy before getting pregnant is the ideal way to go. Don't use diet pills, or crash diets though. Do it the safe way. Eating right and exercise. After you concieve you can continue your healthy eating habits and exercise - it's good for the baby and makes the pregnancy/delivery/recovery easier.

I agree. Get healthy the old fashioned way with low saturated fats, high fiber, lots of protein and some exercise. You're body will be more receptive to conception with the exercise. I was able to exercise at a pretty high level all the way until my 7th month, so don't worry. It won't hurt the baby at all as long as you are going the healthy route.

My obgyn recommended me to lose weight by following low carb diet and exercising. You should eat more protein food like eggs, meat, fish, dairy products, beans, etc , and "good" carbs like whole grain pasta, bread, fruits, vegetables. "Bad" carbs such as sugar, while bread, etc, can raise insulin levels, and having an elevated insulin level can cause other hormone to be unbalanced, thus, it makes a woman more difficult to ovulate and conceive.
Have you had your doctor check you for any hormone in balances? You may want to have your doctor check your fast insulin level and prolactin level. This is how I found out why I was having a hard time getting pregnant and the doctor put me on appropriate meds.
Good Luck!
