I would certainly not worry. I have a 10-month-old and she has had everything under the sun just because it's that time of year. Her first cough I was sure she had asthma, and the first time she threw up I was sure she had been poisoned. It's the plight of being a first time mommy/daddy.

When my baby gets sick i call the doctor to tell me what to look out for or when to call the dr (coughing blood, rattling noises, etc) then you feel like they are ok and you realize it's just a cold.

I've found forcoughing, you should run a cold air humidifier while he sleeps and sit in a steam bath with him for a few minutes acouple times a day if you can. At the drugstore you can get these things called "shower soothers" and they look like alkeseltzer tablets or something. Put that in the drain and run hot water with the door closed. Sit in there with baby. It'll help her breath easier and relax, plus you get a facial at the same time!

Call the doctor to see what temperature is too high (my doc says 104 rectal) and what to look out for if it's more than a cold, but I would bet it's just a cold.

Also, if you put a pillow or blanket under his crib mattress so his head is elevated a little when he sleeps you could reduce the risk of getting an ear infection!

My daughter has actually had pneumonia, so I can tell you what symptoms you can look for! She was breathing VERY quickly (77 respirations per minute) and very irritable. Also, look at the way he breathes. Is his chest rising and falling or does it seem his abdomen is working hard to breath? My daughter was breathing with her abdomen and her doctor told me that only a slight degree is normal. I hope this helps! Also, any time he has a high fever ALWAYS take him to the doctor.

I forgot to add, that she had a terrible cough. She would start coughing uncontrollably, sometimes even vomiting from coughing so hard. She also wheezed.
