Advice for a baby with colic

My baby had colic and would scream from 5pm in the evening right through to 10pm / 11pm every night for the first 3 months. The doctor perscribed Colief and we would put a few drops in her milk but I don't really think it made a lot of difference. The same happened with infacol.

I'm thinking of having another baby and would be really interested to hear about any medical advice in this area to help or prevent colic.

I dont believe you can prevent it. My first son had colic and it was torture, for him and us! But we got through it and when we had our secong son, he didn't show any signs of colic at all. In fact, he was a very very happy baby!
I would say just have another baby and see what happens. More than likely the baby will not have colic.
Best wishes to you!

I don't think you can prevent it either, but you can try and help it if you do have a 2nd one and has colic. I have heard bringing a baby to a chiropractor really helps. I know it sounds crazy but they use different techniques on infants and children. You might want ask around and maybe call some chiropractors. I was lucky and my daughter didn't have colic, but I can imagine how hard it is. Good luck I hope you get the answers you need

My son had colic and grew to be lactose intolerant. Maybe you might consider changing the milk to a soy based formula. I would also take him on a car ride. The steady motion seemed to calm him and after a while, the soy milk stopped the colic.

I'm not so sure I would take colic as an answer, you can usually tell by the cry if there is something wrong, in my experience it usually ends up being reflux. My daughter had reflux and sensitivity to milk , the doctor mentioned colic, I would not take that for an answer. We used Nutramigen formula with rice cereal to thicken every bottle, gas drops and Zantac twice a day, we soon had a new, happy baby. We were so thankful it worked, hiccups and gas problems stopped, no spit up at all.

Colic is the dreaded cry of a lot of us moms. All four of my children had it. We tried letting them sit in the car seat on the washing machine (the movement helped), riding in cars, different bottles, different formula. My oldest son, we would take the boat out in the afternoon and the movement over the waves stopped his crying. With my last son, I discovered a homeopathic medication called Baby's Bliss Gripe Water (google it to order it or find a store near you that sells it). It WAS my solution. It stopped it within 15 minutes. Since then, I have given it to every new mother I know. My mother has also. I work in a daycare and used to keep it on hand and when the mother's would let me, we would try it out. Probably 90% of the time... it worked. That being said... different bottles, different formula, movement, ect are all good things to try and may work. But Gripe Water fixed us for sure. Good luck and best wishes.

My baby had colic and i just made sure i burped her several times during feeding. You can lay your baby on their tummy and burp them that way or pushing their legs to their stomach up and down a few times that will help them fart it out or burp. Try using playtex drop in bottles because you can push the air out. I bought over the counter colic medication and put drops in her mouth not in a bottle.

What I did for my daughter was switched to soy formula and I also gave her some gas relief drops before and after her bottle. I burped her after every 2 ounces and also did the leg exercises pushing them gently up to her tummy.

Colic pain is pretty mucha given that it will happen it newborns. BUT, I was given a home remedy that worked wonders. My son is 3 months old and for his first 2 months of life, he suffered with bad Colic pain. I started to give him 1 oz of Aniz tea. You boil water and aniz together until the scent fills up your house. You then strain the tea unto a cup to make sure there are no Aniz seeds in the water that you will be giving your son. Try giving him an ounce or so in between feedings. Trust me, it will help! They relax and feel much better. Good luck!
