How to go about getting permanent guardianship?

My daughter had a baby in April of this year, and she just found out she's pregnant again. She broke down to me and let me know her fear of not being able to provide for both kids. I offered to take care of the one she's pregnant with. The one problem we have is the dad is very much an unfit parent considering he has to others that he has never cared for and one of which he has never seen. We are scared he's going to try to get the baby in the far future, so is there any way to get permanent guardianship without my daughter having to completely give up her baby and do an adoption.

Why dont you adopt the child once he/she is born? i would think once he is not around and dont sign the birth certificate she can do adoption without him and that way you adop the baby then and he has no say.. i hope this was helpful to you!

The only thing you could do is have him declared an unfit or abusive parent if you had the proof to do this. Otherwise he has just as much right to the child as she does. Even if your daughter chose to give the child up for adoption, he would have to agree to this also. She can go to court, get sole custody of the child and give you guardianship but at any point, either of them has the right to fight to take the child back. I wish I could tell you something differently. You need to get a lawyer for her and yourself to have papers ready for as soon as the child is born. Good luck and best wishes.
