Also check with the churches in your area. There are many churches in my area who offer food pantries and clothing closets just for folks who need a little help
And Goodwill and Salvation army are good places to go just like NitroG suggested
Also if you have a caseworker that helped you with the emergency WIC they should be able to provide you come local resources as well.
Best of luck to you...keep the faith . God never gives us anything he feels we cannot handle
You could find a freecycle group in your area. this is an online group, usually through Yahoo, of people who want to get rid of perfectly good items that they no longer need. We were able to obtain an electric stove that worked just fine from a family who no longer needed it because they remodeled. We were also able to pass along a fridge to a battered women's home. So search for "freecycle" on the yahoo home page, and see if you can find one near you. You will want to read the posting instructions carefully, and follow the rules, or your request may not be put online. You should probably not put any personal info in your request, like you lost everything in a fire. I symapthise with you, but if you want your request put on freecycle, they don't want you to tell the world WHY you are in need, they just want to know WHAT you need.
I would start with the phonebook. The blue pages have government agency numbers, Emergency numbers with local organizations. Also call any family that could take you in for now. Or if that is not an option, shelters for women. If you can't find a number, you can call information (411) and they can direct you to the right number. WIC can give you a new ID and new vouchers you just need to tell them what happened. Children and youth might be able to help too. They have caseworkers there that have access to organizations. They might be able to help you get things taken care of faster. I hope this helps. Good luck.
Craigs list is a great place to find things. People are always willing to give away free things. Also kids consignment shops have items donated to them and if they dont sell it they usually throw them away. It's worth a call.
Your WIC vouchers can be replaced within a week. Give them a call or go to the local office, they should be able to help you right away.
First I would like to give you some encouraging words which is the best thing about hitting rock bottom is you got nowhere else to go but up! You can go to your welfare worker and tell her your situation and your worker should give you a voucher for each kid and yourself to shop where you choose I believe you can shop at salvation army, savers, ross and talk to your wic they could provide the car seat and stroller and get it donated to you. Also call action line and see what they can do for you just dial action line I hope this helps...............
Iam so sorry to here that I will pray that things get better for you in the mean time the salvation army does offer free furniture and supplies for you and your children, you can call any salvation army store and they'll give you the number to the office then you fill out a form and they give you vouchers to get what you need. Churches who offer utility assistance can give you vouchers to get clothes and some furniture at thrift stores and depending on where you live there are usually shelters that offer free clothes and personal items shelters aren't just a temporary place to stay they're there to assist anyone in need you just have to know what to ask for, some fire departments offer free car seats and you can apply for food stamps at your local human services or social services department when you do your case worker will have a list of resources to help you get back on your feet. In my personal opinion the best place to turn first is to God no matter what your religion if you pray about it you'll find everything falling into place. Oh be sure to call toys for tots so your kids can still have a good Christmas as well you want this tragedy to effect them as little as possible. Good Luck and remember you are stronger than you know.
Im so sorry that happen to you thats an unfortantate event....Churches are always helpful and craigslist.com go under free stuff or baby stuff there are so many people that are willing to give away items that they dont want I even have some baby clothes and misc items I wouldnt mind giving you if you live in the washington dc area if not I could mail to you how old is your baby? what size she wear? email me @ ladycbug@gmail.com if your still in need
