An Obstetrician is also a Gynecologist. They basically are responsible for the complete health care of women but specifically those that deal with reproductive organs. So from the time that your period starts until your death, there's a reason to see your GYN. So normal checkups, medical concerns, mental issues, getting pregnant, while pregnant, after pregnancy and into menopause and beyond, they are a part of your life.

There are many obstetricians in my area that are good. Dr. Lara Corbett Wilson has delivered two of my children in the Mt Pleasant, SC area. Her number for her office is (843) 884-5133. Any of the other doctors within that practice are excellent also. Good luck and best wishes.

It doesn't need a lot of answers. What it needs is hits on the question. How many people might not know what an obstetrician IS and post this in Google? That's all it takes and this question earns money.

The job of obstetrician / gynaecologist is to support women throughout their lives with respect to their reproductive organs - starting with puberty through pregnancy, childbirth and the menopause.

Their medical role is to treat infections, prescribe contraceptives, prevent breast, uterine or ovarian cancer by routine screening during consultations. The gynecologist can also help couples where one partner has fertility problems, or in case of an unwanted pregnancy.

The obstetrician gynecologist supports pregnancy and childbirth-risk pregnancies. He is assisted in his daily work by the midwives.
