What color shirt goes with a purple tie?

A soft pale blue shirt looks dynamite with purple. That's because purple is a secondary color made of red and blue. Using a primary color with the secondary color always works. Of course, you can also pair it with a red shirt (the other primary color in purple) , but that's an extreme statement, unless you are in a rock band etc.
It depends on the occasion. My second choice would be a black shirt with purple. Purple is the darkest of all the colors, and is interesting with black.
I would not use white. A white shirt is just too much of a classic business statement. A Purple tie says "bold, cutting edge, artistic," etc. White shirts say "hohum".

It depends on the shade of purple. Some are more reddish or pink, while others are more bluish. I think purple ties look good on white, black, gray, a contrasting purple (lighter or darker), possible blue or pink.

As a woman I know it's not trendy to wear a purple tie. Now if you must, due to work or some other business related reason, then wear it with a purple blue shirt. The color purple blue or blue purple would be awesome because it blends in. As a human I tell you that if you must wear it because it was a gift or something, it's ok. If you are the one behind this idea I say don't. A purple tie is whack. It's something peers will clown you for. I would not want to date anyone willing to wear a purple tie.If this is for an event, then thumbs up. You can wear it with beige,black, white, baby blue, or purple blue.
