Hair is dead so once it splits, it is split. There is no way to heal it like you can with skin. All those 'clinical studies' that shampoo companies rave about how split ends were repaired are full of bunk. Most likely these studies only proved that split ends were less likely or that dry ends were given moisture, thus preventing a split.

The only way to get rid of a split end is to get your hair trimmed. From there you can do all kinds of things to prevent split ends, such as conditioning the tips of the hair well, avoiding heated styling products and even using coconut oil in the ends of the hair when it gets dry, but even with all that hair is still going to split sooner or later. Just keep it trimmed up when that happens.

Split ends comes when the protective cuticles in the end of hair fibres have been stripped away. is the because the fibres in the hair gets damaged. To prevent the split ends, one must get her hair trimmed at regular intervals. Also avoid brushing the wet hair and vigorous brushing. Forget back combing, heat styling and hair colouring. Apply hair nourishment lotion or oil. Use shampoo with split ends preventing and repairing formula.

Also try home packs like papaya packs, black lentil pack for hair split ends.

My hairdresser always says to me that you need to cut your hair to get rid of split ends.

I have asked her before if any of those miracle hair masks or oils help to get rid of split ends. She said they don't. Apparently they only temporarily seal the damage, not repair it.

If you do get your hair cut, ensure that from then on that you take care of your hair. Don't apply too much heat to it with hair driers and straightners. Keep the temepature as low as you can.

Also, for the future, buy a brush like the amazing Tangle Teezer (I couldn't live without mine). Tangle Teezers comb tangles out pain free and stop your hair from snapping. I noticed an improvement in my hair really quickly.

Here is the list of some great hair repair products:

Ted Gibson's Goodnite Hair Repair Serum

How to prevent split ends?
- Use rarely hair dryers, crimpers, straightening irons, curling irons, and hot curlers.
- Only use coated or covered rubber bands.
- Never brush your hair when it is wet, since is vulnerable to break or split.
- Instead of metallic combs and brushes, use a natural bristle brush.
- Get a trim every month.
- After every shampooing, use regular conditioner; once a month, use a deep conditioner.
- Select sunscreen, moisturizing shampoo.

Olive oil works really good for me. You can leave it in your hair for couple hours and then wash it off with shampoo...and always use a good conditioner. Nexus is a really good one.

While it is impossible to repair split ends there are some great products that help conceal them and help prevent new ones from forming. Argan Morocean Oil is the absolute best product I've ever used for this. It's relatively inexpensive and can be purchased in the drug store. Olive oil is another great product. Smooth into hair before shampooing taking extra care to work into ends, leave on for just a few minutes and shampoo and condition as you usually would.
Anytime I get a bout of split ends I head straight into the hairdresser for a trim. When the ends are trimmed just a little TLC will go a long way in preventing future splits. Go easy on the heated styling tools, use a boar bristle brush, and use a heat protctant prior to blow drying or styling with hot tools.
Good luck.

Nexxus has a new product line called Pro Mend that's supposed to bind/repair split ends. I haven't used it, but the products seem to get pretty good reviews online, so it might be worth a try!
