My best friend is a fashion designer, what's the best birthday present for her?

Well, unfortunately you can't gift your friend with fashion sense, but if you can afford it, a round-trip airfare ticket to Paris would be nice.

What does she like? If money is an issue, then maybe something like a homemade scrapbook chronicalling her acheivements. Or buy a large basket and spray paint it her favorite color then fill it with all sorts of goodies, whether food or maybe bath stuff she would like. It would be personalized to her tastes so therefore something she would cherish as you put time and thought into it. Here are some ideas.
If she likes to stay trim and work out is to fill a new gym bag with granola bars, a water bottle, some bottles of a electrolyte drink, a few hand towels and a sweat band hat, deodorant, a skin spritzer, and some new socks .

For a camper fill a plastic tackle box with necessities like trail mix, utility knife, sunglasses, flashlight, basic tools, first aid items, batteries, matches, outdoor cooking items and a compass.

For a food connoisseur you can make a fun basket filled with wonderful things for the kitchen. Fill a square market basket with colorful cloth napkins and a table cloth, jar of your favorite homemade salsa, a basil plant, herbal teas, cooking utensils, mixing bowls, herbs and seasonings, hotpads, a bottle of cooking wine and whatever else you can think of. If she loves pasta, buy a large stock pot and fill it with pasta noodles and sauces, fresh parmesean, breath mints (a must!) and maybe a bottle of wine.

If she likes grilling or mexican food try BBQ sauces, queso, chips, salsa's, cookbook, hot pads, BBQ utensils, a cowboy hat, a western novel, western style cups or bowls. You can decorate the crate with bandanna’s and/or chili pepper themes.

You can also fill a gift bag full of fun stuff such as: gift certificates for a movie for you both, items associated with her hobbies, homemade coupons good for free baby-sitting or manicure, chocolate goodies, and items to help her relax. Items such as bubble bath, pedicure kit, or nice candles.
