I started modeling when I was about 12 or 13. It was something that just came naturally. I've always loved being in front of the camera. But, before starting out in front of the camera, start out in front of the mirror! Practice facial expressions, and learn which ones work for you. Flip through magazines like Vogue and see all the different poses. Heres some tips when it comes to posing, though. Instead of having your hands on your hips on second then above your head the next, learn how to move your poses slowly and make them more natural and not forced. Since your an aspiring model, I'm sure you watch Americas Next Top Model. You'll notice on this show, that they stress that poses should not looked forced! Thats defaintly something to keep in mind, because for beginners.. that usually of their biggest problems.
Modeling was always my dream, too. I've always been a very determined person. Even at a young age, I knew I could make all of my dreams come true. Sometimes, I have to admit, I can get a little to determined. Modeling is something I desperatley wanted. I struggled with an eating disorder when I was 12, which resulted in hair loss and stretch marks! It wasn't because I thought I was fat. I knew I was thin. I just thought I wasn't thin enough. At one point, I was losing about 10 pounds a week. The modeling world is of course a very glamourous one, but it can be a nasty one too. Even if your the skinniest girl in the room, I gurantee someone will tell you that you could be skinnier. I developed the strength to overcome that, though. Now, I'm a healthy model! ... and I'm so in love with food I don't think I could ever starve myself again lol . SO, the moral of this story is have STRENGTH. Don't let anyone bring you down !
Instead of paying hundreds of dollars right of the bat for professional pictures, have someone else take the pictures. You'll need a head shot, with minimal or no makeup, a full body shot, and a probably a swimsuit shot to get you started. Take them, or send them to an agency. Different agencies have different requirements for pictures but most are about the same. As soon as you get an agency, try to book as much work as you can but don't swamp yourself. Build yourself a good portfolio, and in no time... maybe you'll be a TOP MODEL.
