Connie, I am so sorry no one has answered your question already, I just found it so here goes. The best temporary colors are by Roux and can be found at most Walmarts but Sallys has a larger selection. The only problem is that there are not any temporary colors that will make hair appear lighter. To achieve a lighter shade you will have to take color out. This is possible and can have some wonderful results, but since you are wanting to change and are afraid, might I suggest getting lowlights done? This is similar to highlights, but with shades close to what you already have so it is not drastic. Just tell whoever does your hair that you want to lift about one to one and a half levels off with either a cap or foil. Tell them you want a subtle change that will lighten no more than 60% of your hair. This helps you maintain your original color while giving you a softer look. People will think you look younger, but won't be able to put their finger on what you did. Good luck, and if you want tips on how to do this yourself, let me know. Susu
