These are the ones I think are good besides the obvious, why do you want to leave your current job, or how much do you expect to make, etc.
Do you like people? (Since they have to listen to people talk all day, this can be crucial, especially since they stand on their feet all day long and can become irritable) (Other similar questions would be: Can you communicate well with people and can you make suggestions and influence them? Can you put yourself in someone’s shoes, and help them with lack of confidence about their looks and the choices they make about their hair?)
Tell me about yourself. (The question is designed to make the candidate be at ease.)
Why do you want to work here, rather than one of our competitors? (This will help you to see if they are possibly going to leave after a short time if something “better” opens up)
What are you hoping to do later in your career? (This lets you know if they are self-starters and if they are
Can you do all the donkeywork, like washing hair, sweeping up cuttings and answering the phone, in between clients to make appointments? (As hairdressers rarely work alone, but rather in a team, which includes a lot of competition for clients. It lets you know if they are a team player.)
Tell me about a time where you had to deal with too many customers at once/a mistake you made/a demanding customer. (This shows whether or not they can help please the customer. Supplementary question: What would you have done differently?)
How would you deal with this situation.…..? (Use an incident that has happened to you or in your salon that you saw the outcome of whether good or bad. This question is designed to see how the candidate can think on their feet.)
Hope this helps. Susu
