Well in all my years as a stylist. I found when the length needs not to be cut get a few layers. When thinning depending on the thickness I have in the past cut the under neath shorter. So it would appear to be still long but, with cutting the underneath shorter it would appear to be thinner.

If you layer your hair it will appear to be long, but lay very nicely on the head.

Since your face is round don't start your first layer any shorter then a little below your chin. Call around for a salon with experienced stylist in cutting thick hair. Also find out what training their salon receives once a year twice. You looking for a salon with continious in-salon training. Yes, you will pay more but you will get want your wanting without sacraficing your length. p.s. during your salon visit if you dont receive a full consultation on your expectations and desires before they take you to the shampoo bowl and you dont feel like you to are on the same page with the hairdresser do not be shy to change you haircut into a style.

Start over til you find the one that listens and gives great suggestions on the best solution for your hair needs. lol

You could try layering your hair. This will take from the thickness of your hair. It will also give you more options in styling your hair. I think long hair is beautiful if kept healthy. And also with you layering it, you could also have it layered around your face and this would look more appealing with your round face.

Just a thought, depending on your budget of course is to call around for an experienced hairstylist. Find the salon that educates their staff on a continuous basis. They have a level system in place ex. stylist 1 designer, master designer and so forth. Find out what type of cutting system they are using, this usually throws the front desk person off especially if they don’t have one.

Find out how through their consultations are - I mean through - they look at your face shape, which features to enhance which to not to, if any, what color would show off the best you, how much time are you will to spend on your hair in the morning and so on . .

P.s. if they don’t ask if there is a price range to consider let them know ahead of time what you want to or can spend so they can work out a style to fit with your needs. Never be shy always ask. a professional stylist will want to know what works best for you.

P.s.s. once you find the salons that offer these qualities go get you hair styled "only", test them first; this provents needless tear sheading, you want to see how good they listen to you and our genuinely interested in you concerns. When you find her/him then make an appt for the actually cut, 9 out 10 you will come out a satisfied guests. LOL

Good that you know not to go short for your face is round and it would only make it look rounder. Trim your hair once a month but only 1 inch into an even line. If your hair has many layers just cut whatever is within that 1 inch even. Eventually the rest of the layers will even out. Do not let the stylist texturize it. That is thin it. A texturizer is a pair of zig-zag scissors that cut hair in a way where some pieces do not get chopped and some do. Once I had a lady over do it and I ended up with a few hairs on my head.lol. Even my boyfriend noticed it. I tried styling it and I couldn't do anything to hide my baldness. Hair is always going to be somewhat of a challenge when it comes to styling. There are more things you can do with your hair when it is long and men surely appreciate it more. The longer the hair is the harder it will be to maintain detangled. The trick is to never go to sleep with your hair unbraided once it reaches 6 inches past your shoulders. Please do not thin it because as is we lose 40 - 120 strands a day depending on age, genetics, health, stress, medication,ect.. You should really attempt to grow it up to your waist. For now use shampoo and conditioner that contain vitamins in it and do not chemically abuse it. Put it up in a sophisticated bun or ponytail sometimes with your bangs side swept, or parted slicked to the side or middle and you can also go slicked back or with your bangs in a little bump with the rest of the hair slicked back either in a pony tail or lose. The mentioned, you should do most of the time to protect your hair from tangling or damage and is quicker. Now for special occassions straighten it out strand by strand with a professional thin straightner and buy some Chi hair polish(the best) (you can buy it at Walmart). Make sure you wash and condition first then while your hair is still wet comb as desired parted in middle side or slick back then let it dry on its own without using the dryer. Do not touch it while it's drying and do not comb it anymore once you combed it the first time. Once it is dry proceed to straightening it. You will obtain the most fantastic slick look you would have dreamed of. Think about it you are blessed with lots of hair. Many women even men would kill to be you. They have to buy human hair extensions just to achieve volume. Do not be fooled. Good Question
