Of course it is OK. You may feel overdressed in the restaurant you're going to but I still believe a shirt and tie is appropriate for visits to any nice restaurants. Check in advance to see if the restaurant itself requires you to wear a jacket. Very few actually do. It doesn't matter whether or not your shirt has a pocket or not. The shirts with pockets look better (my opinion).

Depends on where you are going and what city you are in. I live in Denver which is very casual and that would probably be ok even at many very nice restaurants. But in San Francisco or New York City, places may have a pretty strict dress code. The best way to find out is call and ask the restaurant. They will tell you what the dress code is if they have one. Most city guides like www.yelp.com or www.citysearch.com will tell you on the restaurant profile page.

Another good site to check out for pre-dinner info is opentable.com.

Have a great time!

Yes it is ok to wear a dress shirt with a jacket, and no tie. All together it seems a bit much. No dress shrts with pockets though. ok
