Sounds like good advice flapjacklips. Treat the condition internally rather than treating the sympton externally. I had a co worker who had that problem and kept using different bleaches on her skin. She didn't realize how damaging it was to her tender skin (her upper lip was where she had the discoloration). She went into the salon to have he upper lip waxed. Her salon associate was hesitant to perform the waxing because of how tender and vulnerable the bleaching had made her skin. My co worker insisted on having the waxing done. Big mistake! When the salon associate pulled the wax off, chunks of her skin actually came off with it (not just the little hairs). It took a while for the scabs to go away and the skin to heal.

Just like with freckles, melasma (chloasma) most often occurs due to genetic disposition. There are certain medications that can exacerbate the problem such as Dilantin (anti-convulsant) and birth control pills. it can occur during pregnancy, menopause, ovarian disorders and with hormonal imbalances. When choosing a sunblock you must use a broad spectru one, which blocks both UVA and UVB spectrums of light. Bleaching the skin is never good, as grandmother said; it can (and will) break down the skin. Take an old peice of material and add a couple of drops of bleach dirrectly to the same spot every day for a week, washing it each time. You will develop a hole before the week is out. That is what you are doing to your skin. Creams with Vitamin A may help reduce the signs. Also laser treatments and microdermabrasion can help. Good luck. Susu

If you are going to use flaxseed, you get all the nutritional value and benefits by grinding them up into flax meal. This will release the essential oils. If you decide to do this keep them as seeds until you are about to use them because once you grind them up they will go rancid alot sooner. Good luck, Susu
