It is possible to lighten your hair to a brown, but most likely you will end up with a reddish highlight unless you get it done by someone who knows what they are doing. If however, you want to attempt this on your own, then go to Sallys beauty supply, and find whatever Clariol shade is close to what you want that has the letter N in it's product number such as 83N which is Medium Neutral Brown. The N meaning Neutral means that the base color is not going to give you any added hues. Therefore you will not end up with brassy or reddish tones or some unnatural color. Also you will need to buy some 40 volume creme peroxide (NOT CLEAR as it is harsh on the hair) and a tube of RGC (red gold corrector) this will tone down the natural reds/golds in your hair as you lift the color. Good luck, and let me know how it goes. Susu

It is always hard to give an accurate answer when going from a black to another color....Depending on the color you want it there are dyes formulated especially for black or dark colored hair. These would probably be the best solution instead of stripping your hair
