Yes, you should open all of the cards and envelopes as well as the presents. If someone gives you money or a check in an envelope, express your excitement and appreciation for their "gift." Don't mention out loud how much it is.
By the way . . . congratulations on your impending wedding. I wish you all the best.

What you want to do is open the card first, then hand it to the person recording what you received. Have a special envelop for gift cards, money, checks, etc that are in the card. Have your recorder place them in the envelop, then record on the card whatever they give you. Also keep a piece of paper handy for any presents that didn't have cards. That way you can just go down that list and through the cards as you write your thank you notes.
Note from experience - be sure if you have alcohol at your bridal shower that whoever agrees to record for you holds off on drinking until the presents are open. lol

LOL. Good advice on the 'sober' designated present recorder mahalo... I know the trouble that can cause... LOLOL. Luckily for me the other's were drunk too so they understood the "thank you for your wonderful gift" note not having any elaboration (the one's that didn't give gifts really got a kick out of it).
