As far as I know, the traditional German wedding cake is a layered cake with golden rings like a tree when cut it with a rum and sugar glaze inside. It's called a Treecake or a Baumkuchen which is known also as the "Cake of Kings" which is why it was reserved for special events like weddings.

It take a ton of skill to make the golden rings. It's baked layer by layer on a rotisserie and has to be constantly monitored as it bakes - so find a good german bakery!

I am getting married next month, my ancestory is norway and i am having a kransaka, used for weddings and special occasions and my fiance' s family came from germany. I thought it would be fun to have besides the traditional wedding cake to have these two additional cakes with a small flage beside them. We both are proud of our heritage.
