Where I work we get 30 minutes deducted from our time every day even if we are too busy and shorthanded to take a break. this seems wrong to me. is it?

Your employer must give you that time off or they will be breaking the labor law.
The labor states that an employer must give an employee 30 minutes off for every 4 hours worked, 1 hour off for every 8 hours off. You can break it down 2 different ways. In an 8 hour work day you can take off for an 1 hour lunch break. In an 8 hour work day you can take a 15 minute break after the 1st 2 hours worked then a 30 minute break after 4 hours worked then another 15 minute break after 6 hours worked.
By law, the should labor laws are suppose to be posted in a break room or somewhere like that, It will tell you everything you need to know. You can always call the dept. of labor for further clarification.

You don't get a break. they take 30 minutes from your time ticket anyway
